ABOUT THE BRAND

French craftsmanship since 1894

For over 130 years, Winckelmans has stood for pure quality in porcelain mosaic tiles. Tiles that are not only made to look beautiful, but to last — through-coloured, rich in tone and exceptionally durable. What you see, stays. Year after year.

The strength lies in the simplicity of the material and the depth of its colours. No superficial finish, but true colour that lives within each tile. In small formats that give you the freedom to create, combine and tell your own story — from refined mosaic art to timeless interiors.

FAQs

Is Winckelmans 20x20 suitable as a kitchen splashback?

Can you use Winckelmans 20x20 tiles outdoors on a terrace?

What is the difference between Winckelmans 20x20 tiles and regular ceramic tiles?

Winckelmans 20x20 tiles are made of full-body unglazed porcelain, also known as grès cérame. The colour runs through the entire thickness of the tile, they are much harder, fully frost-resistant, and have an authentic matt appearance. They are slightly more expensive to purchase, but with proper care, they will last almost a lifetime.

How many Winckelmans 20x20 tiles do I need per m²?

For the 20x20 size, you need 10.4 sheets per m². Always account for cutting loss and breakage: order at least 10% extra for straight laying patterns, at least 15% extra for diagonal patterns or complex spaces, and 15 to 20% extra for small spaces such as a bathroom or hallway due to more cutting. Always carefully store any remaining material after laying for future repairs.

What is the delivery time for Winckelmans 20x20 tiles?

Are Winckelmans 20x20 tiles suitable for use in a shower?

Do I need to treat Winckelmans 20x20 tiles in the shower?

Yes, we strongly recommend that. Treat the tiles in the shower with an impregnating agent such as Fila MP90. Although the tile itself does not absorb water, the matt surface texture can retain soap residues and limescale. The impregnation makes the surface hydrophobic, preventing dirt from penetrating the micropores and making the tile much easier to keep clean.

How often should I repeat the impregnation (Fila MP90)?

For optimal protection in a shower environment, we advise renewing the impregnation every 5 years. With intensive use, this can also be every 1 to 2 years. You can easily test it yourself: sprinkle a few drops of water on the tile. Do they still bead up nicely? Then the protection is still good. Do they soak in? Then it's time for a new treatment.

Are Winckelmans 20x20 tiles frost-resistant for outdoor use?

Which tile adhesive should I use for Winckelmans 20x20 tiles?

Use a high-quality, cement-based powder tile adhesive with classification C2, specifically suitable for porcelain stoneware. Because the tile does not absorb water from the substrate, a tile adhesive with high bonding strength and some flexibility is essential for durable adhesion. Ready-to-use paste tile adhesive is not recommended for floor applications.

How do I remove the white cement haze after laying?

Can I clean Winckelmans 20x20 tiles with black soap or linseed oil?

Are Winckelmans 20x20 tiles suitable for underfloor heating?

Are the colours of Winckelmans 20x20 tiles through-body coloured?

Do Winckelmans 20x20 tiles have an anti-slip rating?

How strong are Winckelmans 20x20 tiles compared to other ceramics?

Do Winckelmans 20x20 tiles discolour due to sunlight?

How do I recognise if my cement haze has been properly removed?

Do Winckelmans 20x20 tiles get dirty quickly?

Are Winckelmans 20x20 tiles environmentally friendly?

Yes. Winckelmans 20x20 tiles are made from 100% natural raw materials, without harmful additives. Thanks to their extremely long lifespan — often more than 50 years — they have a very low ecological footprint over their entire life cycle. Furthermore, maintenance products such as Fila MP90 Eco Xtreme are certified for low emissions.
